The best time to visit Tanzania for a safari is from June to October. This dry season offers excellent wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources. It’s also the ideal time to witness the Great Migration in the Serengeti. The green season from November to May is quieter and great for birdwatching and lush scenery.
Tanzania has three main safari circuits to explore. The Northern Circuit is the most popular, with Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. The Southern Circuit is quieter and includes Selous and Ruaha. The Western Circuit is remote, with parks like Mahale and Katavi.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a big challenge, so choosing the right time to go can make a big difference. The best time to hike is during Tanzania’s dry seasons, which run from December to March and mid-June to the end of October. These months have better weather, with clear skies and dry trails, making your journey safer and more enjoyable.
While anyone in good health can climb Kilimanjaro, it can still be tough—especially for those new to hiking, camping, or high altitudes. That’s why it’s best to avoid the rainy seasons in April, May, and November, when conditions can be slippery and more difficult. Planning your climb during the dry months gives you a better chance of reaching the summit and enjoying the experience.

Kilimanjaro has two main hiking seasons each year. These seasons are based on the weather and help you decide the best time to plan your trip. Some months are drier and busier, while others are wetter and quieter. Choosing the right season depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for—clear skies and more people, or a peaceful climb with fewer crowds.
The high season for hiking Mount Kilimanjaro takes place during the dry months, which provide the most favorable weather conditions and spectacular views. These months are from January to early March and June to October. During this time, the skies are mostly clear, trails are dry and stable, and temperatures are generally more predictable—perfect for trekking. These seasons also offer the best chance of reaching the summit safely, especially for first-time climbers. Because the weather is so ideal, it’s the busiest time on the mountain, and you’ll likely meet many other hikers from around the world. If you’re looking for the most comfortable and successful climbing experience, the high season is the ideal time to go.
The low season falls during the rainy months, typically from mid-March to May (long rains) and November (short rains). These months bring more unpredictable weather, including rain, mist, and slippery trails, which can make climbing more challenging. However, the mountain is much less crowded during these times, allowing for a quieter and more peaceful trek. Accommodation and tour prices may also be lower, making it a great option for budget-conscious travelers or experienced hikers seeking solitude. While the weather can be tough, the unique atmosphere, rich greenery, and moody mountain landscapes offer a different kind of beauty that appeals to adventurous spirits.
Posted on James M23 October 2025Verified Best Guide in Moshi! I would sincerely recommend Twende Tours and Peter as one of the best guides I have ever been with. We spent such a wonderful day with Peter hiking to the Materuni waterfalls and then we went on a local coffee tour. Such a kind knowledgeable guide who has hiked to the top of Kili more than 140 times! Would really recommend Peter and Twende Tours.Posted on Alex B15 October 2025Verified Friendly Tour Tour guide was punctual and friendly. I enjoyed walking around Moshi and getting to see the markets, train station, and various other sights. The tour guide had expert knowledge of the area as a local and took his time showing me around, answering all my questions and even teaching me a little bit of Swahili!Posted on JL M28 July 2025Verified A moving encounter. An extremely warm Welcoming by the locals. Interesting exchanges on the way of life of the Malays. I thank Kariokai in particular for his kindness.Posted on Pankit P4 July 2025Verified SUMMIT WITH TWENDE I cannot sing enough praises for Peter and his team on our adventure of hiking Kilimajaro via Lemosho. From the very beginning, Peter was very prompt in answering all our questions and guiding us on what to expect on the journey. We were a group of 4 including 2 fifteen year olds.Baraka and Kalvin were our lead guides. They always made sure we were comfortable and set a comfortable pace for the journey. They were extremely patient knowledgeable. Every night we had a briefing of what the expect for the next day. Daily monitoring of our oxygen levels and heart rates. Shout out to our cook and waiter (Richie and David). I had previously read on blogs that we should be carrying our own hot sauces – Not with this chef. Full breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner + snacks for the road! Not one meal was repeated – and with a taste that can beat any established restaurant. The soups were the best. David made sure we were eating well to build stamina. The soul of our team were the porters, these guys know – and I’m not exaggerating, every rock in the terrain. They would pack up after we left for our hike, beat us to the next camp, have everything setup before we reached with hot meals ready to serve. Some porters would also make the trek back towards us, to take our backpacks and lighten the load – they operate as one team. When you see them going up and down these steep terrains, with the amount of weight on their backs, your own achievement of summitting becomes very humbling – they do it day in and day out. Baraka and Kalvin kept up a pace that was comfortable for us on summit night - with constant encouragement. We also had 2 extra summit porters to assist on the hike, and we could not have done it without them. Us coming from sea-level, carrying even 5 pounds on top the heavy clothing you’re wearing feels like carrying 40 pounds.Twende ensured that we tasted success and would not have been possible without the entire team. Would highly recommend Twende for your Kili Hike - Best of all, they are a local company and they treat everyone well!!!Posted on Prakash M1 July 2025Verified Moshi City Tour I had the pleasure of joining the Moshi City Tour led by Peter, and it exceeded all expectations. His deep knowledge of the city's history and culture, made the experience both educational and enjoyable. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to gain a deeper understanding of Moshi and its people.Posted on Soma A24 January 2025Verified Kilimanjaro Hike with Twende Africa In January 2025 i trekked Kili with Twende Africa and highly recommend this small, local business owned by Peter. VolkmarPosted on Tamsin Z23 October 2024Verified Great forest walk Peter was an amazing guide and picked us up at our hotel and even brought us back again. He told us all about the different animals, trees and plants whilst the forest walk. He is so funny and his interest for wildlife is addictive and we loved to hear about his stories.
