What Is the Food Like On Mount Kilimanjaro?

At Twende Africa Tours, we take food seriously on your Kilimanjaro climb. Our experienced mountain chef prepares tasty and healthy meals to keep your energy up every day. We know that high altitudes can affect your appetite, so we make sure the food is not only nutritious but also delicious to encourage you to eat and stay strong. We also provide plenty of clean drinking water to help prevent altitude sickness and keep you hydrated throughout the trek.

We’re happy to accommodate any special dietary needs—just let us know in advance if you’re vegetarian or have other requests. We can even celebrate special moments with you, like a birthday or holiday on the mountain—with cakes, cards, and surprises! Fresh fruits are always part of our meals, and our menu is always improving. With Twende Africa Tours, you’ll enjoy great food and feel well taken care of on your way to the summit.

What You’ll

Eat on Your Kilimanjaro Trek

At Twende Africa Tours, we provide three healthy meals a day during your Kilimanjaro trek: breakfast, picnic lunch, and a hot dinner. We pay close attention to cooking with healthy oils and limiting fats and red meat to keep your meals balanced. Our cooler boxes keep all food fresh, including specialty items like dried fruits, chocolates, and cheeses to give you extra energy on the trail.

Here’s a typical menu: Breakfast includes fruit juice, fresh fruit, cereal or porridge, eggs cooked in different ways, toast or pancakes, sausages, and hot drinks like tea or coffee. Lunch might be sandwiches with eggs, cheese, or meat, fresh vegetables, boiled eggs, and fruit. Dinner is a warm meal with soup, salad, rice or pasta, chicken or meat, mixed vegetables, and fruit for dessert. Before the final climb to the summit, you’ll get a midnight snack like hot chocolate, tea, biscuits, or soup to keep you going.
