The best time to visit Tanzania for a safari is from June to October. This dry season offers excellent wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources. It’s also the ideal time to witness the Great Migration in the Serengeti. The green season from November to May is quieter and great for birdwatching and lush scenery.
Tanzania has three main safari circuits to explore. The Northern Circuit is the most popular, with Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. The Southern Circuit is quieter and includes Selous and Ruaha. The Western Circuit is remote, with parks like Mahale and Katavi.
We offer three types of accommodation options for your safari: camping, mid-range lodges, and luxury camps or hotels. Each option is carefully selected to match different travel styles and budgets, providing comfort, safety, and a unique experience. Whether you prefer simple, affordable stays or high-end luxury in the heart of nature, we help you choose the perfect place to relax and enjoy your adventure.

Tanzania is the ultimate safari destination, home to some of Africa’s largest parks and reserves. It’s the perfect place to witness the Great Migration, where thousands of wildebeest travel across the Serengeti and Masai Mara in search of fresh grazing. For a more secluded experience, explore Nyerere National Park, where rivers attract hippos, giraffes, and vibrant birdlife. A visit to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area reveals a massive volcanic crater that serves as a natural haven for the Big Five. With firsthand knowledge, our specialists can help you choose the best places to explore on your Tanzania adventure.
Northern Circuit:
The Northern Circuit is Tanzania’s most popular safari region, home to iconic destinations like the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara. This circuit is famous for the Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest and zebras move across the Serengeti plains. Visitors also experience breathtaking views of Ngorongoro’s volcanic crater, packed with wildlife, and Tarangire’s towering baobabs and large elephant herds. Its well-established infrastructure and diverse wildlife make it ideal for first-time safari travelers.
Southern Circuit:
The Southern Circuit offers a more off-the-beaten-path safari experience, perfect for those seeking solitude and untouched wilderness. Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) and Ruaha National Park are the main highlights, known for their vast landscapes, boat safaris, and walking tours. These parks are less crowded, allowing for more intimate wildlife encounters, including elephants, lions, and rare wild dogs. It’s an excellent choice for adventurous travelers looking to explore Tanzania’s raw and remote beauty.
Western Circuit:
The Western Circuit is Tanzania’s hidden gem, featuring the lush rainforests of Mahale Mountains and Gombe Stream National Park—famous for chimpanzee trekking. Katavi National Park, one of the least-visited parks, offers unspoiled landscapes filled with hippos, crocodiles, and big game. This circuit is perfect for those seeking unique wildlife experiences away from crowds, with opportunities to track primates, explore deep forests, and witness wildlife in its most natural state.
Posted on Tripadvisor Bronzing G9 March 2026Verified ★★★★★ – Exceptional Experience with Twende Africa! This was my second time choosing Twende Africa, and once again they exceeded my expectations. After climbing Kilimanjaro with them, I decided to book the Mount Meru hike with the same team—this time as a solo female hiker. The entire crew was wonderful: Baraka, the lead guide, cook Richard, waiter Sebastian, and Peter, the organizer working behind the scenes. They were professional, attentive, and incredibly supportive throughout the whole experience. I always felt safe and well taken care of. Twende Africa may be a local business, but it is absolutely on par with the larger companies. The team is highly trained and very professional. One of the biggest advantages of choosing a smaller local company is the level of personal attention you receive—you’re never just another person in a large group. They truly care about your comfort, safety, and every detail of the journey. I highly recommend them for their professionalism, safety standards, and warm hospitality. And as a bonus, their friendly pricing makes the experience even more worthwhile.Posted on Tripadvisor Bronzing G12 December 2025Verified ★★★★★ – Exceptional Experience with Twende Africa! ★★★★★ – Exceptional Experience with Twende Africa! We climbed Kilimanjaro with Twende Africa and it was, honestly, a flawless experience from start to finish. Peter was extremely professional and well-organized – before the climb he provided all the necessary information, clearly structured, so we felt fully prepared and confident. On the mountain, our guide Baraka was absolutely outstanding. Highly skilled, technically excellent, and truly attentive to every person in our group of five. Thanks to his guidance and the way he managed our acclimatization, all of us reached the summit with no issues or risks. He was always proactive, supportive, and genuinely committed to our comfort and safety. The entire team – porters, cooks, waiters – matched the same high standard: kindness, professionalism, respect, efficiency, friendly smiles, and impeccable service throughout the whole journey. We felt supported every single step of the way. I wholeheartedly recommend Twende Africa. A top-notch team, exceptional guiding, and a climb with 100% success! 🌍✨Posted on Tripadvisor James M23 October 2025Verified Best Guide in Moshi! I would sincerely recommend Twende Tours and Peter as one of the best guides I have ever been with. We spent such a wonderful day with Peter hiking to the Materuni waterfalls and then we went on a local coffee tour. Such a kind knowledgeable guide who has hiked to the top of Kili more than 140 times! Would really recommend Peter and Twende Tours.Posted on Tripadvisor Alex B15 October 2025Verified Friendly Tour Tour guide was punctual and friendly. I enjoyed walking around Moshi and getting to see the markets, train station, and various other sights. The tour guide had expert knowledge of the area as a local and took his time showing me around, answering all my questions and even teaching me a little bit of Swahili!Posted on Tripadvisor JL M28 July 2025Verified Une rencontre émouvante. Un accueil extrêmement chaleureux par les habitants. Des échanges intéressants sur le mode de vie des Massais. Je remercie en particulier Kariokai pour sa gentillesse.Posted on Tripadvisor Pankit P4 July 2025Verified SUMMIT WITH TWENDE I cannot sing enough praises for Peter and his team on our adventure of hiking Kilimajaro via Lemosho. From the very beginning, Peter was very prompt in answering all our questions and guiding us on what to expect on the journey. We were a group of 4 including 2 fifteen year olds. Baraka and Kalvin were our lead guides. They always made sure we were comfortable and set a comfortable pace for the journey. They were extremely patient knowledgeable. Every night we had a briefing of what the expect for the next day. Daily monitoring of our oxygen levels and heart rates. Shout out to our cook and waiter (Richie and David). I had previously read on blogs that we should be carrying our own hot sauces – Not with this chef. Full breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner + snacks for the road! Not one meal was repeated – and with a taste that can beat any established restaurant. The soups were the best. David made sure we were eating well to build stamina. The soul of our team were the porters, these guys know – and I’m not exaggerating, every rock in the terrain. They would pack up after we left for our hike, beat us to the next camp, have everything setup before we reached with hot meals ready to serve. Some porters would also make the trek back towards us, to take our backpacks and lighten the load – they operate as one team. When you see them going up and down these steep terrains, with the amount of weight on their backs, your own achievement of summitting becomes very humbling – they do it day in and day out. Baraka and Kalvin kept up a pace that was comfortable for us on summit night - with constant encouragement. We also had 2 extra summit porters to assist on the hike, and we could not have done it without them. Us coming from sea-level, carrying even 5 pounds on top the heavy clothing you’re wearing feels like carrying 40 pounds. Twende ensured that we tasted success and would not have been possible without the entire team. Would highly recommend Twende for your Kili Hike - Best of all, they are a local company and they treat everyone well!!!Posted on Tripadvisor Prakash M1 July 2025Verified Moshi City Tour I had the pleasure of joining the Moshi City Tour led by Peter, and it exceeded all expectations. His deep knowledge of the city's history and culture, made the experience both educational and enjoyable. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to gain a deeper understanding of Moshi and its people.Posted on Tripadvisor Soma A24 January 2025Verified Kilimanjaro Hike with Twende Africa In January 2025 i trekked Kili with Twende Africa and highly recommend this small, local business owned by Peter. All my needs were heard and accommodated by Peter and his team. Guide Eli is very friendly, knowledgeable and reliable. Everyone in the team did their part as was needed to make my hike a very enjoyable and memorable one! VolkmarPosted on Tripadvisor Tamsin Z23 October 2024Verified Great forest walk Peter was an amazing guide and picked us up at our hotel and even brought us back again. He told us all about the different animals, trees and plants whilst the forest walk. He is so funny and his interest for wildlife is addictive and we loved to hear about his stories. He has a lot of experience and we would recommend going on a tour with him anytime. Thank you Peter for the lovely time!Tripadvisor rating score: 5.0 of 5, based on 63 reviews
